New logos are often controversial, but they can mark the beginning of the revitalization of a service and attract new attention to it. Waze is a service that has existed for a long time, 14 years to be exact and is only now receiving its first style change update.
Along with a clean logo and a new word mark, the service is getting bright colours and playful in-app icons. The service was purchased by Google in 2013, about 6 years after the company started.
Now, the cute little car icon is cleaned up and the word mark font has been updated. The car is rounder and even more friendly, while the character is a more “professional” one.
To accompany the new logo, Waze is also introducing a new colour scheme and playful in-app icons. The colours are much brighter and stand out more with the new thicker black edges.
The mobile app will soon be updated to match this new design, although Waze hasn’t reported any dates. The new design hasn’t made a huge change, but it’s enough to make the service modern.
